Well drained soil – does not like clayish soil

This hardneck garlic gets its name from the Amish who brought this garlic to America around 1860-80, and has been grown and treasured by Americans ever since. It has a rich, spicy garlic flavor. Its bulbs are comprised of a single layer of cloves around a central stalk aka neck. The “neck’ in hardneck refers to the long flowering stem that grows upward from the bulb. All hardneck garlics have a more complex and richer flavor than most garlics. Great for roasting, cooking and drying. Amish cloves store for 4-6 months. Averages 8 – 10 large cloves in 2 inch or larger bulbs with purplish-brown thin papery skins.
