A tall, robust Native with deep blue flower spikes in late summer. Flowers are shaped like a medieval monk’s hood. Native to large parts of Europe and the United States. All parts of this plant are toxic to humans, cats, dogs, and horses. Deer and rabbit resistant.
Cultivation: Best grown in moist, organically rich, well-drained soils in part shade. Can tolerate more sun in cooler areas; soil must not be allowed to dry out. Cut back stems after flowering to encourage an additional bloom.
Utilization: Thrives in shady perennial or wildflower gardens. Great cut flower.
